Foodservice or catering business refers to those businesses, organizations, establishments, and individuals involved in preparing any meal served outside the house. Full-service restaurants usually serve everything from continental to Asian, including Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Middle Eastern, and more. Many restaurants have casual dining or buffet-style service, complete with table service, wine, and beer. Buffet restaurants provide lighter meals but also offer dessert for dessert. Some types of foodservice include full-service restaurants (which also offer carry-out and take-away), foodservice distributors, prepackaged foods, and consumer versions of restaurants. In Canada, an industry organization, FIFO, is the industry standard for foodservice. According to FIFO, foodservice operators should have one decedent year per year of direct labor expenditures, no contracts with suppliers, and regular training seminars for all employees. The differences between foodservice and beverage service style restaurants are slight but significant.
